Maryland-based Oxide Games Showing off Upcoming Video Game in Germany in Late August
Lutherville-Timonium headquartered game developer will exhibit video game Ara: History Untold at “gamescom”
BALTIMORE – Aug. 2, 2023 – Oxide Games, a video game developer located in the Baltimore, Maryland area, revealed that Ara: History Untold, the historical grand strategy video game the company is creating in partnership with Xbox Game Studios, will exhibit the game in the Xbox Booth at “gamescom,” the world’s leading expo for video games, in Cologne, Germany. Thousands of attendees and games industry professionals will be able to interact with Ara: History Untold alongside other Xbox, PC and Xbox Game Pass titles.
“Since we announced the game during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase in 2022, the team has been hard at work to ensure that Ara: History Untold is the best it can be,” said Michael Califf, lead designer. “It’s a huge boost to our team’s morale to attend a significant industry event like this and finally show off our game to players at the show.”
In Ara: History Untold, players will experience a modern take on the classic historical grand strategy genre as they lead nations from the dawn of human society to the pinnacle of human achievement while exploring an interactive living world.
The game was developed using Oxide’s proprietary Nitrous Engine, a next-generation game engine designed to handle an enormous scope of visual and gameplay complexity. Ara: History Untold marks a return to Oxide’s historical strategy roots, with much of the studio’s team serving as key developers on the landmark strategy title Sid Meier’s Civilization V.
“With advancements in the Nitrous Engine, we’re able to bring something as grand as Ara: History Untold to life without comprising our design team’s vision,” said Dan Baker, chief graphics architect. “We strive to push grand strategy games to the next level, and gamescom will be an important milestone for our studio to see how players engage with Ara.”
Before “gamescom,” attendees can sit in on a talk from Dan Baker about custom tech at “devcom Developer Conference” on Monday, Aug. 21. The talk is aimed at individuals interested in starting a game studio who would benefit from building custom systems and tools to achieve their vision for a game rather than compromising due to third-party software’s limitations. The talk is a continuation of Baker’s presentation last year and will be available on Oxide Games YouTube channel after the conference.
